Uniting Farmers Branch is an organization of residents, business owners, and friends of Farmers Branch who are committed to improving the quality of life for all who live, work in or visit Farmers Branch. We will achieve this goal by:

Promoting an inclusive vision of participation & leadership in our community,

Respecting the dignity of all members of the Farmers Branch community, and

Re-establishing a positive image of our city throughout the region and beyond.

We began meeting in August 2006 to explore ways to encourage the Farmers Branch City Council to forego adopting ill conceived and ineffective resolutions and ordinances that focus on restricting illegal and other immigrants. Unfortunately, the Council passed several such measures on November 13, 2006. Ordinance #2892 would have conscripted apartment owners and managers into service as immigration agents.

We’re Winning!

Since that November Council meeting, we helped lead "Let the Voters Decide," a highly successful petition drive that required that city council either immediately rescind Ordinance 2892 or put it to a public vote at the May 2007 municipal election. On January 22, 2007 the Council pulled a clever end run around several of the law suits by rescinding 2892 and replacing it with a much weakened 2903 to be considered by the voters on May 12, 2007.

Let it be clear that we do not support illegal immigration.

Uniting Farmers Branch does not support illegal immigration. As we all know, this is a federal issue that must be dealt with in Congress and not with the ill conceived, ineffective, burdensome, and divisive measures that the Farmers Branch City Council has enacted. The first step is to vote down the ordinance.

Furthermore, we support the granting of sufficient modes of legal entry for the workers needed by U.S businesses, governments, entrepreneurs and individuals. Our government needs to know who is here and where they are working. We also advocate strict enforcement of employment standards to protect all workers and ensure the proper payment of taxes.

We are currently engaged in a vigorous voter registration drive and will marshal the resources needed to overturn Ordinance 2903 in the upcoming election. With our success, we will change the course of history in Farmers Branch, TX, and the nation. This is the only immigration ordinance campaign of its kind ever conducted and will be the first ordinance of its kind overturned by a public vote.

As our name suggests, Uniting Farmers Branch seeks to unite rather than divide our fine city. By inspiring all the stakeholders of Farmers Branch, we can work as a community to improve our image, strengthen our financial standing and revive our leadership role in the region.
